In the canteen we had live music from Nathaniel, singing Jamaican folk songs, a display of Jamaican food with tastings together with a super Jamaican curry, Pineapple upside down pudding served by the canteen staff.
Supported by a team of Year 11 helpers, who worked tirelessly selling tickets and putting up displays and decorations, this was a huge success. In the theatre a limbo competition drew the crowds and prizes were won for amazing feats of ‘limboing’.
On Saturday October 13th West Bridgford competed in the Nottinghamshire Schools Cross Country League race one in Sutton-In-Ashfield. The league races invite all athletes from all over the County to compete, making the races very competitive and closely fought. On a lovely autumnal morning, and over a challenging course, Bridgford fielded over 30 athletes in 4 races and competed over distances from 2.5km to 4km. There were some excellent team and individual performances and the morning started well with Joseph Mitchell (15th) leading the Year 7 boys team to 6th place. The 8/9 Boys team, not wanting to be outdone, finished a highly credible 3rd with bottom age Luis Kelk in 9th first Bridgford runner home. However, it was the girls' team display that really topped off the morning with the Year 7 girls fielding 2 complete teams who finished in 1st and 4th and the Year 8/9 teams finishing in 2nd and 6th which was a fantastic achievement. With 3 of the 4 age group teams finishing in the top three the signs are encouraging that, once again, we can win medals in the team competition after the 3 league races. Well done to all who competed.
The 2nd league race is on Saturday 17th November at Sutton Lawns.

Congratulations to Florence and Isabella Reed on finishing second and third at the recent English Schools Fell Running Championships.
Wednesday July 11th saw our last celebration lunch of the year. Sydney 2000 Olympics and Paralympics were memorable events for all Australians, and as part of our celebrations we had a themed Australian lunch.
And what a lunch it was - the ‘Aussie Burger’ or as it is more colloquially called ‘The Lot’.
This included:- a burger, fried egg, bacon, lettuce, onion, pineapple, beetroot, mayo and ketchup!!!
Very tricky to manoeuvre into the mouth, as some of our photos show. This was washed down with juice and the famous Anzac biscuit. (Apparently my mum used to make these post war, when ingredients were in short supply).
Lunch was accompanied by the dulcet tones of Rolf Harris singing about his ‘Didgeridoo’, as well as Kylie Minogue and other Australian greats. The Australian National Anthem was saluted by one young member of our school who actually saw the Olympic torch in both Sydney and Nottingham.
Meanwhile, outside, crowds gathered to watch the ‘Boing! Boing! Boing! Kangaroo Jump’ where Mr Kemp asked pupils:- ‘Do you wallaby a winner? A life size Kangaroo, complete with Joey, presided over the whole proceedings.
Pupils were challenged with a kangaroo jump, feet together and only 3 jumps, in order to beat the previous jumper.
The sun shone and we dreamt of Bondi Beach.
