Reward Assembly
Summer 2008 saw our third reward assembly at the WBS, a time when the students take ownership of the stage to celebrate and have their achievements acknowledged and rewarded with a prize, pertinent messages and cheers from their peers!
Over 30 students per year group were chosen from Heads of Department or their Directors of Learning to receive a prize for hard work, mature behaviour and effort in lessons as well as students being nominated for improved effort and effort grades, improved behaviour and tutor group award for best attendance and punctuality.
Assemblies were set up to get the senses dancing, with music, bright lights and images of the companies supporting our Reward Celebrations, teamed with the energy and excitement from students, the atmosphere was fantastic.
Support from the local business and sporting community has been integral to the success of our Reward Celebrations, not only for providing some fantastic prizes but also for the positive partnerships initiated and maintained over the last 2 years. Mark Arthur, Chief Exec of Nottingham Forest kindly attended our (very early – 8.30am start!) assemblies to address the audience with a positive message, encouraging our students to work hard and put the effort in, a discipline which can create a positive attitude to future challenges and have an impact on personal success. Mr Arthur then presented tickets for Forest matches to some of our hard working students. A huge thank you to him. We would also like to say a very big thank you to Mary from Boots in West Bridgford. She has been incredibly generous in providing some fantastic prizes for all year groups and has done so since the very first Reward Celebration. Richard from Broadway Cinema, thank you for providing packs of tickets for our students. Obviously a hit with the older ones who have been incredibly grateful to receive something of interest to them, clearly a place they like to hang-out! Nott’s County Cricket tickets were well received by some of our keen cricket fans. Exigent Photography have also been incredibly generous, providing some free make-overs and photography sessions, enabling our year 11s to capture their pre-prom pose! Also, for the support given from a local business in West Bridgford, Slades Florist. Thank you, thank you, thank you to you all from students and staff here at the West Bridgford School.
We would also like to thank Nottingham Panthers, Real Hair, South Nott’s College, Victoria Centre for your support in our previous Celebration Assemblies.
Our assemblies have been a great success up to now and obviously, it is very important what our students think, so we have asked for their feedback. Year council’s have asked their tutor groups for suggestions and comments and these have all been heard and considered when designing the next lot of assemblies. The whole school has and will continue to keep the Reward Celebrations relevant, inclusive, up-to-date and outward looking, this is something the whole school community has and will continue to play a part in.
Finally, we would like to thank the students for their commitment and hard work. We know you work hard because it matters to you so keep up the good work, well done and who knows, you could be named at the next Reward Assembly!
